You might already be aware that reducing your energy consumption can help lower the cost of your heating and cooling bills. But did you know that you can also save money by making certain upgrades to your home? Here’s a look at some of the rebates available to homeowners in Alberta who make their dwelling more energy efficient.

Town of Banff residential environmental rebates

If you live in Banff, you may be eligible for a refund from the municipal government if you add certain energy efficient features to your home. Among other things, you can get an environmental rebate for installing new windows or doors, a water-efficient toilet or Energy Star certified appliances such as a fridge, dishwasher or washing machine. To qualify for a rebate, your receipts must be dated January 1, 2021 or later.

Lethbridge homeowner rebate

If you own property in the SunRidge development in Lethbridge, you may be eligible for up to $3,500 in rebates if your house meets certain environmental performance targets. The SunRidge BuiltGreen homeowner rebate is based on the EnerGuide rating for houses. Therefore, your eligibility for the refund will depend on both the energy efficiency and energy consumption of your household. For more information, reach out to the City of Lethbridge Real Estate and Land Development Department.

HAT Smart rebates

Are you a customer of the City of Medicine Hat Electric and Natural Gas Utility? If so, there are several financial incentives available to you as part of the HAT Smart environmental rebate initiative. In order to qualify, simply take steps to make your home more sustainable by installing a solar PV system or purchasing an Energy Star certified furnace or air conditioner, among other things.

Home Energy Retrofit Accelerator

The Home Energy Retrofit Accelerator initiative in Edmonton is a five-step program that guides homeowners through the process of renovating their homes to be more sustainable. It also provides eligible homeowners with rebates based on the energy efficiency of their upgrades. The types of renovations supported by this program include improving insulation, installing a more efficient heating system and replacing windows with triple-pane models.
